Roy R. Theriot, Sr.

Mayor of Abbeville

Comptroller, State of Louisiana

Roy Theriot was the Louisiana Cattle Festival. His vision and leadership created it, his love fostered it, and his imagination and dedication gave it life. It was one of his children. His desire to place the City of Abbeville on the map was never more evident as when he proudly brought former President Harry Truman as the special attraction to the festival. Other special guests included U.S. Ambassadors, Congressmen and Senators, and movie stars. With his death in 1973, the Cattle Festival lost it’s greatest asset. Mr. Roy is sorely missed but the Festival he created lives on as testament to his memory. It is only fitting that the first person inducted to the Louisiana Cattle Festival and Fair Hall of Fame should be it’s founder, Roy R. Theriot, Sr.
