Brady and Bonnie Broussard 2003 Citizens of the Year The Louisiana Cattle Festival is proud to award the Citizens of the Year honor to R. Brady Broussard and his wife, Bonnie. They have been married for 45 years and have 5 children and 12 grandchildren. Brady is a life-long resident of Abbeville, worked for Superior Oil Company for 10 years and worked for Sellers and Associates Engineering Firm for 20 years. After being elected Mayor of Abbeville in 1986, he ran unopposed for the next 3 terms and retired in 2002. He attended Mount Carmel Elementary, Abbeville High School, and Northwestern University. Mayor Broussard was chairman of the Abbeville Fire and Police Civil Service Board for more than 10 years and was the first chairman of the Vermilion Boys and Girls Club. He was on the executive board of the Louisiana Municipal Association and was appointed to 2 national boards for Energy and Environment. He was a member of the Louisiana Board of Commerce and Industry and a member of the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority. Bonnie attended St. Cecilia Elementary, Holy Angels Academy, and Southwestern Louisiana University. She is the originator and chairperson of "Vermilion Takes a Stand" and executive director of "Louisiana Takes a Stand," both anti-drug and alcohol abuse programs for youth. She was on the Louisiana Violent Crime and Drug Control Policy Board for 15 years. Mrs. Broussard is the chairperson of the Abbeville "Right to Life: program. She represented Governor Buddy Roemer in Russia on a Goodwill Tour to Russian children. She has previously received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Louisiana Cattle Festival. |
