Elysse Simon has been named Jr. Cattleman for the 2004 Cattle Festival. Elysse
a 15 year old, 10th grade student at Kaplan High School. She has been in the 4- H Beef
Project for six years, raising and showing Brahman cattle.
Her beef cattle experiences started, early. She has been getting in the pasture and
catch pen with her family's herd since she was eight years old. Her job responsibilities
with the herd included assisting in sorting cattle, worming, vaccinating, and feeding.
Elysse's accomplishments have been many and very outstanding during her 4-H
career in the Beef Project. She has received and won numerous awards. She
received the
Overall Ground Beef Cookery Award twice. She participated in the District Beef
Cookery Contest twice and placed Blue Ribbon both times. Elysse has received Beef
Achievement Records Award in her age division twice. She has placed in the Parish Beef
Premier Exhibitor five times. She has placed Reserve Champion Vermilion Bred
Brahman Heifer in parish competition twice. On the parish level, Beef Records are
always what she works on the hardest in her 4-H career besides showmanship. In
the past
years, she has placed 2- 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 2-Blue Ribbons. At the state level, she has also
completed Beef Records for three years. She placed State Winner in 6th grade and 9th
grade. In November, she will attend Club Congress in Atlanta, Georgia for being the
State Winner in Beef Records.
Her involvement in 4-H includes more than her beef experiences. She is also
involved with Clothing, Citizenship, and Community Service projects. She was named
Outstanding Club Member for five years and Outstanding Club Member At Large one
year. She has been a member of the 4-H Jr. Leader Club for the past two years. She
attended 4-H State competition for the past two years placing 11th
in the Clothing- Casual
Wear and 5th in the Clothing- Creative Choice. She has also competed in State Records
in Community Service and Good Provider and has placed 1st Alternate and Blue Ribbon.
Elysse has also been involved in the Beta Club for three years. She also served as
the Freshman Class Vice President this past year.
Elysse's 4-H leader is Ms. Nancy Marceaux. She is the daughter of Arne and June
Simon.
It can be said that Elysse Simon is a well-round young lady who has overcome all
of her endeavors. She is most deserving of the honor to be Jr. Cattleman for the 2004
Louisiana Cattle Festival. |
